Weird Wide Web is an illustrated guidebook celebrating the oddities of internet culture.
Created as my final project at Bezalel Academy’s Visual Communication Department, the book reflects my fascination with the internet’s eccentric communities, niche aesthetics, and unconventional phenomena.
The project delves into internet subcultures, conspiracies and viral sensations, packaging them into a beautifully illustrated and meticulously designed print format. Through a mix of watercolor illustrations, hand-drawn typography, and digital collage, I sought to translate the sprawling, intangible nature of the web into a cohesive, solid print artifact.

The journey of creating the book was as complex as the subject it tackles. The process demanded thorough research, detailed writing, clear & attractive illustrations, and thoughtful design. The result is an encyclopedic format divided into clear categories—characters, communities, ideas, and phenomena. Each section features dynamic visuals alongside explanatory texts, complemented by a glossary to ensure the content is approachable for all readers.
To align with the encyclopedic vision of the book, I chose a classic, realistic illustration style, crafted with layered watercolor and black pencil. This approach captures the depth and detail of each subject while incorporating elements from the digital world—such as YouTube player icons and handwritten typography of links and tags—bridging the gap between the internet’s chaotic aesthetic and the structured format of print.
The book's design incorporates elements like ASCII art, a nod to the early days of the web, and a playful use of typography that references internet aesthetics. The cover, featuring dynamic, multi-font ASCII-inspired lettering, encapsulates the book’s theme of celebrating the internet’s weird, chaotic beauty.
Through Weird Wide Web, I sought to document and celebrate the creativity, absurdity, and freedom of online culture, encapsulating it in a physical medium that invites readers to pause and reflect. This project was deeply personal—a tribute to the internet's role in shaping my interests and identity. As the digital world grows increasingly chaotic, I see immense value in examining these phenomena, embracing their extremes, and cherishing the boundless imagination they represent. Creating this guide was both a challenge and a labor of love, rooted in my enduring affection for the internet’s quirks and communities.
